Local Food Campaign in a Globalization Context: A Systematic Review

As a basic commodity, food has undergone thorough globalization, with the global market totaling 1392 billion USD in 2019. Despite such great amount of trade, idea favouring consumption local food, or campaigns, won ever growing attention and advocacy recent years as an effort to enhance social environmental sustainability. This systematic review study draws wisdom from extant literature provides critical thinking on how differs non-local whether two are more antagonistic complementary. Results suggest that although term “local food” hardly been clearly defined, it is possible accommodate different opinions set common constructs Eriksen’s “three domains proximity”. Regarding strengths researchers agree its strong personal connection, distinctive culture, high quality, but less supporting economy, reduced energy consumption, friendliness. Meanwhile, current weaknesses terms higher price unsuccessful information communication; however, these not without solutions. Overall, while localization globalization differ purpose, they can well co-exist, promote collaboration rather than confrontation, together accelerate sustainable growth market.
